Community Service
WHAT IS COMMUNITY SERVICE?
Community service, also known as volunteering, is an organized activity that benefits the community without the expectation of payment or reward. It can be done by individuals or groups, and can take place at the local, national, or international level. Community service can involve working with members of your community, such as at schools, parks, libraries, or nursing homes. It can also be organized through non-profit organizations, local governments, churches, or informal groups.
WHY IS COMMUNITY SERVICE IMPORTANT?
Community service can benefit both the individual and the community. For example, volunteers can develop skills like leadership, communication, and decision-making, and learn more about themselves. They can also reduce their risk of depression by staying in contact with others and building a support system.
